Youth Employment

Renaissance of New India – The Youth

Much has been said about India's demographic dividend: that its working-age (15-59 years) population, as of now, largely consists of youth (15-34 years), and as a result its economy has the potential to grow more quickly than that of many other countries, including China.

But can India hope to garner its demographic gift? Can India provide financially remunerative & economically productive employment to its youth?

India suffers from several deficits on this front - education deficit, skills deficit, employability deficit and most importantly job availability deficit, especially for semi-urban & rural youth.  If these deficits aren’t addressed in an urgent and systemic manner, India will be unable to reap the benefits of this demographic dividend; in fact, it will become counterproductive. Unemployed and frustrated youth will lead to socio-political unrest and may pose a danger to national security as is evident in the case of the Naxal movement.

To address the above deficits, RK has embarked upon two initiatives. One is aimed at providing ‘Skill Development & Employability Training’ at government colleges across Karnataka in a PPP model.  His second initiative is focused on providing ‘Skill Training with Employment – Rural BPO’ for the Rural Youth in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Skill Development and Employability Training Task Force

This initiative is targeted at the urban and semi-urban youth, studying in government colleges across Karnataka. The idea is to engage with all the stakeholders proactively to improve employability of our college graduates and provide  Industry with a productive and trained workforce. This is achieved by providing bridge courses and skill development programs based Industry feedback, monitoring progress using metrics or data on ‘Quality of Output’ and ‘Number of Placements’ to help the decision makers both in the Government and the Colleges. The deserving and needy students are supported by means of ‘Micro Finance’ to enroll in these courses because anything for ‘free’ is neither appreciated nor sustainable.

As said by Franklin Roosevelt “We cannot always build the future for our youth but we can build our youth for the future”.

Skill Training with Employment – RURAL BPO

This initiative is targeted at rural youth. Semi-educated, with no vocational skills, rural youth find it hard to compete for jobs in the new economy. To provide employment to the rural youth, RK has pioneered a 'Skill Training with Employment' initiative where a 30-50 seat Employability Training Centre & 80-150 Seat Rural BPOs are established in rural areas to assimilate local rural youth into the knowledge economy, which so far has been limited only to the big city centres. This is akin to democratization of the IT revolution in India. This initiative is targeted at the Rural Youth.
